Historic Sites

The main square of Kazimierz Dolny showcases Renaissance and Baroques style architecture.  Located in the main square, the Przybyła Tenement Houses were built in the 17th century in Renaissance style.  Situated atop the hill, the Ruins of the Castle date back to the 13th and the 14th centuries.  The castle and the Łokietek Tower, commissioned by King Casimir the Great, is a complex of defensive fortifications.  Kazimierz Dolny was an important grain trade center.  The granaries located near the Vistula River, are historic warehouses built in the 16th and the 17th centuries to store the grain.  Kazimierz Dolny comprises a collection of magnificent churches.  The Church of St. John the Baptist and St. Bartholomew in Kazimierz Dolny was established in the 14th century, later destroyed in the fire and rebuilt in the 16th century.  The church exhibits an 17th-century organ, an altar with paintings of the saints and stucco-decorated vaults.  The Church Annunciation of Blessed Virgin Mary, founded in the 16th century, showcases historic iron doors and a main altar with the painting of Blessed Virgin Mary.  The associated Franciscan Monastery was built in the 17th century and features a wooden well in the monastery garden.  The 18th century synagogue in Kazimierz Dolny is an important symbol of the town’s Jewish heritage.
