Antarctica, isolated and wild, is an extreme habitat for diverse wildlife. Penguins are intriguing creatures that can withstand the cold climate of Antarctica. We encounter three species of penguins during our cruise to the Antarctic Peninsula. We arrive at Half Moon Island to observe over 4,000 pairs of breeding Chinstrap penguins. Adélie penguins are very entertaining to watch. We descend on the massive ice sheet and encounter playful Adélie penguins sliding on their bellies in a zigzagging style. An excursion to Neko Harbour leads to a colony of Gentoo penguins. Gentoo penguins are beautiful creatures with red-orange beaks and light orange feet.
